JUST…

Just enough?

Just is a series of ink and watercolor works exploring the subtle power of language - specifically the word “just” - to strip declarations of their certainty and persuasive weight.

The use of a floral script, with its stereotypical femininity, is a deliberate choice designed to evoke the use of “just” as a modifier both by and about women to diminish their voices or qualify their contributions. In doing so, Just challenges the perception of femininity as inherently passive and reclaims the delicacy of the medium as a symbol of strength.

Through this interplay of language, form, and cultural critique, Just asks viewers to reconsider the subtle forces embedded in everyday speech. It invites reflection on the ways we communicate, how our words shape perception, and the power that can be reclaimed by removing those that undermine.
